Comfort zone - what does that look like to you? And why are people scared to push that boundary between safety and the unknown? Why are we happy to keep ourselves within certain limitations?
The main reason is because it is safe, I'm safe because nothing will happen to me here....I wont be judged, I wont be rejected, I won't fail........the list goes on.
So would you say the fear of failure is killing your creativity and hindering your success?
Enough of the questions... lets briefly have a look at some of the solutions here -
Firstly you need to acknowledge the limitation you are holding, so for example 'I daren't because people will judge me' ......... this one is a very common limitation.....and I need to mention firstly its not our job to make everyone like us.......how exhausting would that be if we even tried!
Once you've acknowledged your limitation or limited belief, what do you do with them?
There are lots of processes which I won't go into to detail now, but here is a process for you to try out:
Only use one self limiting belief at a time, otherwise this will become overwhelming. (I'm hoping you haven't placed too many limiting beliefs upon yourself).
Step 1: Firstly write the limiting belief down - acknowledge those words, this maybe where you feel you are now BUT it is NOT where you are planning to stay.
Step 2: Ask yourself why do you believe this is true?
This is a moment of reflection, think back as to why you have this belief about yourself, what events may have happened to reinforce the belief?
Step 3: Ask yourself is this belief really true?
Where or who has instilled this limiting belief in you? The more we believe it to be true the more entrenched it becomes in our psychology that they become well-established thought patterns, often triggered by a certain type of event.
Step 4: Now you must IMMEDIATELY counteract this limiting belief with a strong image of a POSITIVE belief.
We all have the power within us to choose the belief we have given ourself (this takes practice, do not give up), when thinking optimistically it will help with the blocks we have given ourself.
Now follow the previous two steps, replacing the limiting belief with the POSITIVE belief about yourself.
With step 3 Tell yourself this Positive belief IS true and you CAN do anything you want too in life!!
Leave step 4.
You have got this!!
As the pioneer in positive thinking, Norman Vincent Peale said, “Change your thoughts and you change your world.”
REMEMBER each and everyone of us are different in many ways, no two people are the same, we will all have varying outlooks on life because we have different filters.
So be yourself, be your own unique self, there is no-one else like you.
Most people will love you, some people won't...but you need to be happy with yourself, don't squash yourself to fit another persons belief of how they think you should be.......you were born to be you.
Lets move on and briefly touch on the fear of Rejection.
Unfortunately as blunt as it sounds, rejection is a part of life, so in order to move forward with your ideas, you need to accept that at some point you will be rejected.
The high flying guys get rejected more than anyone thinks.....the difference is ...they just don't quit.
We often hear - 'Fear of failure'. Where does this stem from, this fear of failure?
We are afraid to fail because of the hurt such failure might have to our ego self.
We look into the future and make assumptions of the outcome, so in short, we are afraid to fail at something because of the emotional pain our egos would experience, not because of any logical or rational reason.
- FEAR = False Evidence that Appears Real - It appears real, even though it is a fear of the future and is not happening now, therefore, it has no real substance.
- Getting through fear is a skill that anyone can learn. (attempt the process above).
Ive touched on some fundamental reasons here, without going into too much depth (we will pick up on fear in later blogs) but for today do at least one thing to overcome your fear of failure.
Along with the technique above, develop mantras and affirmations that build you up and increase your self-confidence. Read uplifting books to help interrupt the negative inner dialogue that goes on in your mind this all helps to rewire your brain..... but YOU need to take the initiative and take that first step!
So come on guys, Step outside of your comfort zone – today! x
