“When you become comfortable with uncertainty, infinite possibilities open up in your life.” ~Eckhart Tolle
If you’ve recently experienced a break-up you have more than likely experienced the roller coaster of emotions that come with a major life change such as this.
There are patterns of emotions that most of us will experience when a traumatic loss such as a long term relationship ends. These emotions will generally be a mixture of looking for answers, then there will be the denial stage, anger stage, bargaining stage, relapse stage, depression and then acceptance, all of which we experience in different ways and not necessarily in this order.
I just want you to know that these feelings will soon pass and you will take back your own life! Believe me I have experienced all of the above stages twice before, one as a young single mum and the other more recently in my mid 40’s, I can assure you there is life after a relationship.
Its helpful to know that our emotions are personal to us, as is our journey to acceptance. This is where knowing and loving ‘ourselves’ again is so important. So we can move on from the uncertainty of where we are in life now into a place of growth, growing into our own authentic confidence along with visualising and experiencing our present and future life.
Living in uncertainty and being fearful of what tomorrow may bring is a guaranteed way to destroy the beauty of today.
When we are able to accept that change is an inevitable part of life and that nothing lasts forever, this acceptance will help us to really build on our own lasting happiness and inner peace.
We can often unintentionally be driven by external influences such as our relationships, we think that this is where we find our security and meaning, however when we anchor ourselves to another person like this we will often be left with those feelings of uncertainty when this way of life suddenly changes.
So understanding that the most important area in our lives that we can control and be grounded in is ‘ourselves’. Its so important to take back ownership and responsibility for our own thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
We can control how we react, respond, think, feel and behave to those external forces.
So let me ask you:
How would you feel if you knew that you could remove all angst -ridden doubts and live from a place of purpose, authenticity, meaning and fulfilment and finally move on with your life?
How would it feel to have certainty about who you are and what you want to do with your wonderful life?
Well, when you have certainty about who you are and what you want it’ll give you the strength, resilience and determination to take you through life’s troubled waters.
Understanding ourselves from the inside out and getting to the core of who we actually are will help us to build a solid foundation that we can build upon when moving forward into the future.
How can you do this?
Get to know you…. really understand your ‘why’, your purpose, become solid and congruent to your authentic self.
An effective way to start determining what you want in life (and also identify what’s holding you back) is by beginning to ask yourself a series of profound self-reflection questions.
You've got to be willing to become intimately familiar with yourself, know what drives you, what inspires you, what excites you, what engages you, what scares you, what you do naturally well, what you pretend to like but don’t, and what lies you're saying to yourself! (Yes we do tell lies to ourselves).
As you become more familiar with yourself, you’ll be able to determine what’s most important in your day, your year, and even your lifetime. In doing this, you can begin to focus your time doing more of what you love and less of what you don’t love.
Most of us are busy reacting to those hurtful events in our current lives that we don’t allow the time to ask ourselves the deeper questions that unearth our authenticity and buried longings, so we can finally move on.
If we really want to move on in life and let go of uncertainty to focus on our own purpose, we need to set aside time and create space to ask ourselves those reflective questions.
